•Departure from Bizerte to the city of GHAR EL MELEH: Founded at the beginning of the installation of the Phoenicians in Tunisia (814 BC.), the ancient Rusucmona quickly became a renowned counter for the outer harbor of Utica.
•  After that, it became an important base for the Barbary corsairs. Following the conquest of Tunisia by Charles V in 1534, the Spaniards tried to fight them and built a fort.
•However, the port and its defenses quickly rebuilt and again become a base for British and Maltese pirates. In 1834, a large arsenal belonging to a Maltese pirate exploded and destroyed part of Ghar al Milh.
•  Ahmed I Bey (1837-1855) decided to end piracy in Tunisia and transform their trading port base. He built new piers and fortresses.
•One of the activities that are involved in the origin is the Maltese smuggling. The origin of this activity is the small community of Maltese descent who lived in Ghar al Milh until the dawn of independence.  But in the late nineteenth century, the introduction of a more stringent customs regime forces smugglers to turn into fishermen and gardeners. By refusing to Tunisian citizenship in 1956, the Maltese had to apply themselves to leave Tunisia.
