The LATHEM project is an innovative initiative designed to bolster the tourism sectors of Tunisia and Sicily by developing and strengthening networks of micro-enterprises, focusing on enhancing the quality of tourism offerings in family, sports, and gastronomy segments. This effort aims to address the issue of production fragmentation within the expansive tourism industry, which encompasses a variety of businesses dedicated to fulfilling tourists' needs, including agricultural producers of local specialties. Utilizing marketing management and bottom-up approaches, LATHEM strives to promote sustainable economic growth and increase the tourism sector's competitiveness in these regions.
At the heart of LATHEM's strategy is the creation of three new enterprise networks in Tunisia and the enhancement of four emerging ones in Sicily, facilitated through the introduction of cross-border thematic quality labels. These labels aim to ensure consistent quality across services, thereby fostering better access to sustainable tourism markets. The project places a strong emphasis on SME engagement, marketing education, and collaborative activities to involve at least 200 businesses across borders, enhancing their market reach and operational efficiency.
Key components of LATHEM include conducting detailed market research, organizing seminars, and providing technical assistance and knowledge transfer to help SMEs develop and adopt these quality standards. Moreover, promotional and communication campaigns are crucial to the project's strategy, aiming to raise awareness and attract tourists by highlighting the unique tourism experiences available.
In essence, LATHEM seeks to create a more cohesive, sustainable, and competitive tourism ecosystem in Tunisia and Sicily, benefiting local SMEs, communities, and tourists alike. Through its focused approach to quality enhancement and network support, the project endeavors to contribute to the economic resilience and prosperity of the regions involved.
