INTRODUCTION
As part of the 2nd phase of the global program “Cities and Migrations” and following a call for projects, a consortium led by the National Union of Tunisian Women of Kairouan is piloting the project “Inclusive Cities – Local Services and Decent Jobs for All” / VISA
The overall objective of the project is to improve the attractiveness of municipalities in the interior of the country by improving access to employment opportunities and integrating migrant workers into the labor market and the population from rural areas and settled on the outskirts of cities, as well as making administrative municipal services more accessible, efficient, transparent and close to citizens who live far from the urban center of the municipalities.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The project follows an integrated territorial development approach focused on a more equitable distribution of employment opportunities and municipal services, and this in a gender-sensitive manner.
To achieve this, the project will capitalize on the development levers in the targeted corridors, Kairouan and Tataouine-Medenine, for better management of local migrations by enhancing regional wealth and potential.
The project is based on the following objectives:
- Objective 1: Stakeholders in secondary cities use the financial and technical assistance provided to improve the integration of internal migrants and host communities into the labor market.
- Objective 2: Stakeholders in secondary cities use the financial and technical assistance provided to improve the provision of gender-sensitive, climate-resilient and sustainable basic services for internal migrants and host communities.
- Objective 3: Stakeholders in secondary cities use the financial and technical assistance provided to address persistent gender inequalities with context-specific responses by including a local organization with a gender equality mandate for the design, implementation and evaluation of the project
